Santa Spam

Of course, with the advent of the holiday season, we are faced with the shift of spam from just telling me how I can grow my penis size to an animated male stripper with a santa clause hat telling me how to grow my penis size. Great. This is just the thing I need at 6am, first thing I see when I'm up in the morning. This is getting ridiculous...

The Kite Runner

For those readers out there, get your hands on "The Kite Runner", by Khaled Hosseini . It's an intense, character-driven book set in Afghanistan, spanning about 30 years or so. I don't want to give too much away, but the book is very well written, and full of major and minor life lessons that are dispensed in the form of the narrator's personal mistakes and his coming to terms with his own past, and it is done without being too preachy. Very well-balanced book, overall.

Jazzy

So I went to catch some hip tunes last night, at a place called Ortlieb's Jazzhaus. The George Burton Quartet was playing, and although I've never heard them before, I was pleasantly surprised by their quality. very cool. But then again, Ortlieb's is such a great place anyway. Rumor is that is used to be a bowling alley at one point in the past, and it got converted into a bar, and subsequently a jazz venue. I give the full thumbs up, personally. Especially since the stage and bar are both overseen by a large stuffed bison head. Yes. I am a fan, as well.

Jedi Religion?

I'll admit that upon reading the heading of this article about Jedi Religion, I was already reeling in amusement and fully ready to hate/doubt, etc. Upon readnig, I was pleasantly surprised to find not a radical indictment of the star wars film, but a strangely insightful to an academic's study and interpretation of the religious elements presented in the star wars universe. Fascinating, honestly. Some of the links offer further studied insights into the concept, and it is really interesting to see how Lucas himself perceives the impact of religion upon the films and their popularity.
